Stepping into the world of dance portraits for the first time was both exhilarating and challenging, but above all, rewarding. Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to photograph the dancers of Soul to sole in Walker, Louisiana, and it’s a day I won’t forget any time soon.
In just one day, I captured nearly 3,000 yes, 3,000! I had to narrow those down quite a bit. From the tiny tots in their adorable costumes to the grace and poise of the Premier Pointe dancers, I was completely immersed in the beauty, energy, and discipline that each dancer brought to the studio.
We covered everything from tap and jazz to hip-hop and ballet. Each style brought its own flavor to the session, and I worked to ensure every dancer was captured in their element -whether mid-leap, spinning with precision, or simply smiling proudly in their costume.
There’s something magical about freezing a moment of movement. Dance is fleeting, expressive, and full of emotion, and my goal was to preserve that artistry in a still image. I’m proud to say we got some truly stunning shots that reflect not just the technique, but the passion of these young performers.
This was a huge undertaking, but I couldn’t be happier with the results. I walked away inspired by the talent and dedication I witnessed. Thank you to Sole to Soul for trusting me with your memories. I hope these portraits bring joy to your dancers and their families for years to come.
Stay tuned for sneak peeks and some of my favorite highlights from the day!
