It’s hard to believe this marks my 3rd year photographing the talented dancers at Soul to Sole Dance Studio in Walker, Louisiana. What started as a big, new undertaking has now become one of the most meaningful parts of my photography journey.
Each year, these sessions grow—not just in numbers, but in heart. This time around, we had more dancers, more costumes, and a whole new level of confidence and creativity. The studio was buzzing with excitement as tiny tots twirled in sparkles, hip-hop dancers brought the energy, and pointe students showcased their elegance with poise and strength.
What makes this experience so special isn’t just the beauty of the art – it’s the friendships. I’ve watched these dancers grow year after year, both in age and in artistry. Some of them I remember from their very first dance portraits—now standing taller, dancing stronger, and smiling just a little brighter in front of the camera.
Every genre offers its own rhythm and emotion, and I love the challenge of capturing each style’s spirit through my lens. This year, I really focused on honoring that variety with intentional posing and lighting, making sure every dancer saw themselves as the artist they are.
I won’t lie; it’s a massive undertaking, with thousands of photos taken over long hours. But every second is worth it. Seeing the joy on each dancer’s face (and their families’ reactions to the final images) reminds me why I do this.
Thank you, Sole to Soul, for continuing to trust me with these memories. Your studio truly feels like family.
With so much love and gratitude,
