There are moments in your creative journey that leave a lasting imprint on your heart—and for me, one of those moments was attending my very first photography shootout. It was the Boho Shootout 2020, hosted in beautiful McKinney, Texas, and I felt inspired I felt just walking onto the set.
This incredible event was made possible by an amazing team of creatives: Elizabeth Copeland of the stunning dress company Bentley & Lace, talented photographers Stacie Paris of Stacie Paris Photography and April Massad of April Massad Photography. The breathtaking florals that tied the whole vision together were designed by Jessica Alfaro of Yellow City Dreams. Every detail was thoughtfully curated to bring the “boho” dream to life.
The shootout brought together 12 gorgeous girls, all models and dancers, dressed in flowing couture gowns that moved like poetry. Alongside me were 9 other passionate photographers, each capturing the magic through their unique lens. As someone still shaping my artistic voice, it was a gift to be surrounded by such talent and creativity.
What I loved most about this experience was the opportunity to dive deeper into my fine art and couture style of photography. The way the dresses billowed in the breeze, the way the girls twirled and moved with grace—it all felt like a living fairytale.
But my favorite moment of the entire day? Golden hour.
Just as the sun began to dip below the horizon, it spilled warm, golden light through the trees. The sheer fabrics of the gowns lit up like fire—soft, radiant, and dreamlike. It was one of those scenes you wish you could bottle up and keep forever. And thanks to my camera, I did.
Boho Shootout 2020 was more than just a styled event. It was a milestone in my journey, a reminder of why I fell in love with photography in the first place. I left with new skills, new friends, and a heart full of creative fire.
If you’re a photographer and you’ve ever considered attending a shootout—do it. You never know what kind of magic might be waiting for you there.
